For all you 6ers fans out there, at least hear me out before you close the tab. Did Philly really improve over the offseason??
They lost their best and most clutch player, Jimmy Butler, and only really got Josh Richardson in return. Don't get me wrong, I think Richardson will be a really good player, probably even an all-star in a few years, but I don't think Richardson compensates for the loss of Butler.
Another loss was JJ Redick, their best 3-point shooter last year. He shot 40% from 3 and 90% from the foul line (which are really good statistics). He was a very important leader on and off the court, and losing him will drastically affect the 76ers shooting and chemistry.
The best player they added was Al Horford, and for some reason they gave the 34 year old $100M for 4 years. Horford will probably fill the gap in leadership, but that won't happen right away. While Horford will be able to help when Embiid is injured, and will be a key defensive player, the 76ers will definitely lack in the shooting category.
Both Butler's and Redick's eFG% (effective field goal percentage) was 50 and 55%, respectively, which is very good. Horford's eFG% was 58% last year, which might seem good, but it is below average for his position and height, and Richardson's eFG% was 49%, also below average.
This Hot Take🔥 was a bit long, but I think that most would agree with me after reading it. If there any 6ers fans who strongly disagree with me let me know below.
